10 EASY TIPS FOR LEAVING LESS PLASTIC WASTE

10 EASY TIPS FOR LEAVING LESS PLASTIC WASTE

It’s no secret that the worlds oceans and ALL of it’s inhabitants are suffocating because of the human race.

We chuck an estimated 9 million tonnes of plastic waste into our oceans and seas every single year.

Let me just repeat that……. 9 MILLION TONNES, EVERY SINGLE FUCKING YEAR and since the 1950s we’ve produced, and wasted, 8.3 billion metric tonnes of plastic

A mere 7% of that has actually been recycled.

We all use plastic on a daily basis so I’m not saying irradicate it out of your life. I mean how else would you store that hugely over estimated amount of pasta or rice without your set of tuppawheres-the fucking lid?

So here’s 10 easy tips to remember that will help you with wasting a shitload of plastic…

#1 SAY NO TO THAT

PLASTIC STRAW!

I’m sure I’m not the only person that’s seen videos of people pulling straws out a turtles orifice so save a turtle and say no to that plastic straw! -preferably before the bar staff has chucked it in to your Daquiri, Mojito or Milkshake.

In the U.S alone, FIVE HUNDRED MILLION straws are chucked to waste DAILY, that’s enough straws to wrap around the world 2.5 times!

#2 GIVE UP GUM

Gum is made from synthetic rubber, which is plastic, so it ‘sticks’ around for a very long time. You’ve only got to walk outside your local supermarket to find a gummy-pockerdot covered ground.

Plus it’s annoying as hell when you park your ass down on someone else’ chewing gum to then be told to stick it in the freezer for a day, which NEVER works.

#3 BRING YOUR OWN BAG (it doesn’t need to have a disney princess on it)

5 trillion plastic bags are produced every year

160,000 plastic bags are used globally every second! Thats a shit load of bags AND a shitload of chances for turtles, whales and wandering albatross to mistake them for jellyfish.

Theres a pile of our wasted plastic floating around somewhere in the pacific called ‘The Great Pacific garbage Patch’ (yes they’ve given it a name)…. killing sealife as it peacefully flows with the currents.

If you really want to save plastic don’t spend your pennies on a “bag for life” from the supermarket but buy yourself a fabric shopping bag which will still out live you and won’t end up in some sea creatures stomach if it get blown away in the wind (which will never happen)

#4 RE-USABLE CUPS

A flask, a cup or a mug, whatever you want to call it just use a reuseable one. This is especially important when travelling, rather than going through 10-20 plastic cups with your bottle of vodka use your own re-usebale cup.

#5 STOP USING PRODUCE BAGS

We can easily tell the difference between a plastic bag and a jellyfish. The Turtles of our oceans can’t.

You just don’t need them, they may help you pop your spuds in your trolley, without them flying about everywhere, but at the end of the day you just don’t need to use them. If you really can’t live without a small bag to put your veggies in, then invest in some reusable netted drawstring bags.

#6 USE GLASS INSTEAD OF PLASTIC

There is a whole range of glassware out there now, so once your tuppaware has ran it’s course buy yourself a nice new set of glass containers. They may be abit more pricey than their plastic counterparts but they won’t start to stain after 5 uses.

#7 SACK OFF THE TAKEAWAYS(or atleast cutdown)

This is probably the hardest one if you’re a avid pizza slayer.

Everyone loves seeing that delivery driver, all dressed up in blue and red with 3 white dots on his cap, pull up outside your house at 6pm with a box full of cheesy tomatoey goodness, but sacking off your takeaway is a sure way to save on some plastic, that you won’t ever even see.

I’m not saying NEVER EAT TAKEAWAY AGAIN, just cut down, slow down, cook for yourself and pop open a bottle of wine.

Roatans West Bay is pretty much plastic free, unfortunately not all of Roatans beaches are as clean as this one.

#8 USE A RE-USEABLE WATER BOTTLE

This one is SO easy ! Especially if you’re on the move, buy yourself a re-usable bottle and bloody re-use it. You can even buy yourself an eco-friendly bottle to re-use.

Also something great to add to your re-usable water bottle is a Steri-PEN.

Buy yourself a re-chargable Steri-PEN and tap water all around the world can be safe to drink within minutes. It will save you money and it will save countless plastic bottles being left to sit on this earth for years to come.

#9 LADIES, BUY YOURSELF A MOONCUP!

Tampons and pads make up an incredible 200,000 tonnes of waste each year, not all of it makes it to the ocean but a bloody good percentage of it does.

Swap out your drain blocking tampons for the ‘Mooncup‘ a healthier and more convenient alternative – it will save you a shit load of money as well as saving our planet.

#10 EDUCATE OTHERS

Education is the Key to the future of our oceans so if you run into someone who has been living under a rock for the past 5 years, educate them on why plastic has become a worldwide problem and how they can cut down on their plastic waste.

Share and pin this post below to educate others……. just remind yourself of what you can do to help save this planet
