The Islands diverse landscape reflects in to the Hostels it holds.
You can find yourself high up in the mountains sleeping in hammocks or down by the lake sleeping with pigs (not literally)
Here are our Top 5 Hostels on Ometepe Island :
Recommended by a friend for the party, burgers and ‘unlimited rum punch’ Little Morgans didn’t disappoint.
Party hostel Little Morgans is filled with party ready staff (shoutout to Katy), dogs (Bennie, Diva and Danger), Pigs, Turkeys, Rabbits and also sits with the lake right at its footstep.
Its a Hostel you should add to your agenda if you’re looking to party on Ometepe.
Just remember to close your door or the pigs will eat your shit…..
$12 a night PP for a comfortable stay in a 6 bed dorm. Fans, mosquito nets and decent lockers are provided.
No breakfast included.
The burgers at Little Morgans are DE – f*cking – LICIOUS, chicken or beef just do yourself a favour and get yourself one, or two like we did…..
El Zipolote is a 1 minute drive, up the road, from Little Morgans.
If you’re getting there with your own transport you’ll need to leave your scooter or ATV etc at the bottom of the path for a $1 charge (it’s basically someones garden).
It’s a fair old hike up with all your travel gear but well worth it, you can choose to camp in a tent or stay over night in a tree house.
$10 for the treehouse dorm (recommended) Lockers and mosquito nets included.
Every Saturday is Pizza night so we planned it that our stay would co-inside with its cheesiest night. For $4 you can get a whole margarita to yourself, Calzone for $12 or a pizza toppings, salad for $8.
We highly recommend the chorizo filled Calzone.
El Zipolote is one of very few places, let alone hostels, that offer gluten free pasta.
The Landing is a small quiet hostel within 100m of the ferry port. Perfect for if you got the last ferry in and need somewhere quick and easy to stay.
Price: $10PP for the dorm includes Fan.
As this hostel is situated on the main road of ometepe there are dozens of restaurants and local food stalls where you can buy yourself a bargain portion of Gallo pinto for $2 inc plantain.
Nathaylys hostel is a very quiet, family run Hostel that is perfect for everyone.
We stayed at this little gem after partying hard at Little Morgans and El Zipolote and it couldn’t of been a better way of saying goodbye to Ometepe.
Nathalys is hidden away, 100m down a little dirt road from Ometepes beautiful airstrip (for the best sunset on ometepe).
It carries a real sense of pride, neatly kept gardens, clean rooms and talking parrots……..
Prices start at $10PP for exceptionally nice rooms, you feel spoilt after staying in a tree house and mosquito filled rooms
For $5 you get a meal that is cooked with love from the family kitchen.
There is no menu so we were offered “Beef, Chicken or pasta”.
We opted for the chicken, which when presented we couldnt of been happier, huge portions of gallo pinto, plantain and half a grilled chicken with a pint of pineapple juice included.
Last note: STAY HERE ! Its such a nice hostel that we wish we stayed another night.
Life is good
Life is Good Hostel is a 15-20 minute walk from the ferry or a 50C$ ride in a tuk tuk and they will foot the bill for getting there with any pre-booked bed (not when leaving).
The staff were super friendly on arrival and the smell coming from the kitchen was mouthwatering…
Its a clean, good vibe hostel and like most hostels they will help you sort out any day trips you may have in mind although the volcano hikes can be found cheaper in other places.
$12 PP for a 4 bed dorm, the lockers art the best but are usable.
All their food is locally produced and they’re ready to cater for Vegans, Vegetarians and Celiacs.
