San Juan Del Sur has beaches either side of the main town, from surf paradise to perfect picnic pitchups
Heres the low down on some unmissable beaches (that we visited) in San Juan Del Sur
PLAYA SAN DEL SUR – This is the main beach in San Juan, holding the port in its bay, restaurants dotted across the shore and light surf make it the perfect beach for family fun or just to chill out.
However we don’t recommend walking down this beach very late at night as it gets a bit stabby……
PLAYA HERMOSA – This is a popular beach with local and tourists and with a $3 entry fee its a surfers paradise. It takes around 15 minutes to drive so you’ll need to rent a scooter or get a taxi. Once you’re there they offer free beach loungers, surf board rentals, lockers and a fairly priced menu.
If you happen to drop in at the right time of year they also have a turtle release programme!
PLAYA MADERAS – Maderas is probably the most popular surfers beach with daily tides and curling waves this is the place to be if you want to catch a surf, its also holds an abundance of bird life with pelicans and osprey fishing in the surf great. A scooter or car is recommended to access here….. We chose scooters!
PLAYA MAJAGUAL – Majagual is a short walk over from madras and is perfect is you’re feeling a little
overwhelmed by the other tourist filled beaches, it easy to get a day where no body is in site so its perfect to
bring your own cooler down for a piss up or a picnic. Please be thoughtful by not leaving any of your waste on the beaches.
If you bring it with you, take it back with you.
PLAYA MARSELLA – Marsella boasts a stunning river that enters the sea which is perfect for any avid bird watcher and is another perfect location to come and chill out while watching the pelicans dive infront of ‘Submarine Rock’, the sun set and if you’re lucky enough the resident crocodile paco (who can only be found in the river).
The sunsets here really are spectacular so, if you have the time, we recommend Playa Marsella are our No1 Beach
